Check Engine Light & Mobile Diagnostics
A code tells you where to start looking. It doesn't tell you what part to buy. We use dealer-grade scan tools to read live sensor data, command components with bi-directional tests and verify what the vehicle is actually doing. Then we confirm the fault before we put a single part on your vehicle.
What we handle on-site
- Check engine light and stored/pending code diagnosis
- Live data: real sensor values read while we test
- Bi-directional commands to activate and test components
- Dealer-grade module programming and configuration
- Misfires, rough idle and stalling
- Lean/rich fuel trim and vacuum leak testing
- EVAP, emissions and DEF/SCR faults
- Intermittent and no-start electrical faults
Signs it's time to call
- A solid or flashing check engine light
- Rough running, hesitation or poor fuel economy
- A light that comes and goes
- A recent repair that didn't fix the problem
Live data: what the sensors are really saying
A trouble code is a snapshot. Live data is the whole picture. We watch real values (fuel trims, sensor voltages, temperatures, pressures, misfire counters) while the engine runs, so we can see whether a sensor is reading correctly, reacting the way it should or telling the computer something that doesn't match reality.
Bi-directional tests: make the part prove itself
Our dealer-grade tools don't just listen. They can command components to run. We can switch on a fuel pump, cycle a solenoid, open and close an EGR valve, run a DEF doser test, command a cooling fan or trigger a forced regen, then watch the live data to see if the part and its circuit respond. If it doesn't respond, we know where the problem is. If it does, we keep looking instead of replacing a good part.
Dealer-grade programming
Many modern repairs aren't done when the part is installed. Modules, injectors, batteries and some sensors need programming, coding or relearn procedures. Our tools handle dealer-level programming and configuration on-site, so you don't need a second trip to the dealer to finish the job.
Why we don't just read the code and swap a part
Most trouble codes have several possible causes. A P0171 lean code can be a vacuum leak, a dirty mass airflow sensor, a weak fuel pump or a cracked intake hose. Live data and bi-directional testing let us narrow it down and verify the cause digitally before we touch a wrench.
How diagnosis pricing works
For straightforward problems where the fault is clear, diagnosis is a flat fee. For complex or intermittent problems with several suspects, we tell you that upfront and quote diagnostic time with a cap you approve before we start. If we can't confirm a fault on-site, we say so plainly and point you to the right next step instead of guessing with your money.
What you get
A clear written finding: the codes, the live data and tests we ran, what we found and photos when they help. Then an estimate for the repair, and you decide.
Check engine & diagnostics: common questions
Can you diagnose a check engine light at my house?
Yes. We bring dealer-grade scan tools with live data and bi-directional controls to your driveway, office lot or job site anywhere in our service area.
What are live data and bi-directional tests?
Live data shows the real values your vehicle's sensors are reporting while it runs. Bi-directional tests let our scan tool command components, like a fuel pump, fan, valve or DEF doser, so we can confirm a part and its circuit actually work before replacing anything.
Can you program modules and new parts?
Yes. We have access to dealer-grade programming, so modules, injectors, batteries and other parts that need coding or relearns can be set up on-site.
Is the code scan the same as a diagnosis?
No. A code scan shows which system flagged a problem. A diagnosis uses live data and testing to confirm the exact failed part or circuit. We do the second one.
What if the problem is intermittent?
Intermittent faults usually take more testing time. We'll tell you that before we start and quote diagnostic time with a cap you approve.
